DON (42) started out 2007 by making his annual job change. He is gainfully employed at the SAS Institute where he works as a Systems Engineer for the Financial Service Business Unit. He now works in pre-sales where his “soft skills” are really starting to pay off! Surprisingly, he’s doing well in sales because it turns out that Don is actually likeable in small doses. Who’d a thought? Kathryn summed up everybody’s reaction to this amazing news with the following quote. “Don’s doing well in an environment that requires people to like him? Wow. Now there’s a bet I would have lost!” The other high point of the year was when Don turned 42 and all of his family and friends flew in from around the country to give him a surprise birthday party (organized by Kathryn) to celebrate this mile stone? So what’s so important about 42? Well, remember that Don is a computer engineer and reads such classics as the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Don’s next dream is to acquire an authentic replica “Red Shirt” worn by the engineering crew members of original Star Trek. Dream big, Don. Dream big.

KATHRYN (32). As noted above, we built a new house and moved into it during this year. Working through those logistics and caring for three children is an enormous amount of work for any husband and wife team. Now, recalling who Kathryn is married to you can realize how much of the work she did. Basically she did everything. She located the land, found a builder, made the design decisions, and selected the paint, carpet, and cabinets. She also packed and unpacked the boxes, fed everybody and kept the house in its usual pristine state. She also found time to be a lunch mom and attend Bible Study. Despite this, she remains every bit as beautiful and happy as the day she got married. How does she do it? Well, Kathryn refuses to go into details, but we do have one clue. Every time a news story comes on television where they mention “performance enhancing steroid use”, Kathryn gets angry and says she wishes that the baseball commissioner would just “mind his own business”.

DONALD (7). Donald finished graduated first grade earlier this year and has started second grade at a new school: Seton Catholic School in Hudson Ohio. Donald is thriving at his new school. He is getting outstanding grades; he is in the Chess Club, and wants to be in choir and basketball next year. He also earned his green belt after studying Karate for the past year and a half. Another accomplishment of your little Renaissance man is that he designed our family Christmas card this year! We’re really proud of him!

EMILY (4). Emily also made a jump to a new pre school this year. She is now at St. Mary’s where she is learning all the necessary skills to prepare her for kindergarten next year. She is amazing her mom and dad because she is able to read and write and she also clearly inherited Kathryn’s artistic genes. Even better still, her “terrible two’s temper tantrums” are beginning to abate. That’s good because we were getting concerned that she was diabolically possessed. The best way to describe her for the past three years would be to combine the adorable and manipulative cuteness of Shirley Temple with the temper of Linda Blaire from the Exorcist movie. Not a good combination. But like we said, the tantrums are finally subsiding!

KATELYN (2). The newest member of the Wedding Family clan is also thriving. She knows all her animal noises, her colors, and even learned to communicate on an adult level with the rest of the family. Her most effective mode is to grab an object, shriek “MINE!”, and then flail about on the floor for an hour or so. She throws those tantrums so well. It’s almost like she learned them from the feet of a true master. But who? Katelyn has also turned into an adorable little imp. She has a mischievous little smile and sense of humor that she inherited from her mother. She also is a good little problem solver and has an obsessive compulsive gene, but nobody knows where she inherited it. When she wants something, like something that is out of reach on a counter, she will push chairs, pile up pillows, or pull out cabinet drawers and use them as a ladder. No matter what you do, she will keep plugging away at her little goal and will not get discouraged or frustrated. It’s really amazing to watch. It also gets really old, really fast!
